The project aim
In 2017, Facebook announced they would train 1 million young people across Europe in digital skills. Freeformers and Facebook partnered together to create Digital Skills Training to help 75,000 18-30 year-olds improve their digital skills.
The design
After intense stakeholder analysis, the design brief was handed over to my team. We had to create six sessions on the following topics. Each session had to be one in length, use digital tools, and be suitable for running face to face with a large audience. Later on, everything would have to be localised into six different languages.
After the sessions were completed, we used a Train the Trainer model so that trainers in six different European countries could reach 75,000 participants.
My role
I was the lead learning designer, working with a team of designers and coaches to create five face to face sessions on:
The biggest challenge was that everything had to work in the six different languages. The apps and tools and case studies I often used weren’t appropriate, so we had to find alternatives, often by using web-based services that would be translated by Google Translate. Luckily we had support in the form of in-country managers, but they needed clear briefs.
I also led the design of the Train the Trainer workshop which I then handed over to the coaches to deliver. Kalliste Kuhn deserves a special recommendation as the incredible Head of Coaches.
The outcome
The programme trained 1000s of young people per week throughout its duration, with excellent Net Promoter Score (NPS).
In the videos, participants discuss their experiences of Facebook Digital Skills Training Sessions.
A participant from the UK explains the impact Digital Training Skills has had on her work.
